We are now recruiting students for the following summer field courses.
Special Practice I/Special Training in Fisheries Science I
[Current issues in marine environments and their monitoring methods]
◇Period: August 16 (Sun.) – August 22 (Sat.), 2026
◇Location: Usujiri Fisheries Station and Hakodate Campus
◇Content: Students will learn about current marine environmental issues such as marine pollution, biodiversity, and coastal erosion. Through field observations and laboratory analyses, they will learn basic monitoring techniques to evaluate marine environments.
◇Eligibility: 3rd to 4th year undergraduate & graduate students
◇Capacity: 6 participants
◇Costs: Participants are responsible for the Usujiri Fisheries Station usage fee and accommodation (approximately 5,000 yen total), as well as meal expenses.
Special Practice I/Special Training in Fisheries Science I
[Field course on watershed environments and aquatic bioresources in Hokkaido]
◇Period: September 6 (Sun.) – September 12 (Sat.), 2026
◇Location: Bifuka Town and Hakodate Campus
◇Content: Students will learn about the current state of watershed environments, including forests, rivers, and coastal areas, and aquatic bioresources. Activities include lectures and practical training on important fish species such as sturgeon, visiting the Uryu Research Forest, and conducting surveys of the Teshio River.
◇Eligibility: 3rd to 4th year undergraduate & graduate students
◇Capacity: 4 participants
◇Costs: Transportation between Hakodate and Bifuka, as well as the accommodation fee, will be covered by this program. Participants are responsible for meal expenses.

Please note that these field courses will accept two students each from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa.
Therefore, lectures will generally be provided in English.
We welcome students who are interested in field activities as well as international exchange.
